How can I add a product option without creating additional variants?

I have a Shopify product where the customer can choose different sizes (A5, A4, A3, A2), and these are currently set up as Shopify variants. I also want to give the customer another option: Edge: White border No border I don't want to create additional variants for this, because that would multiply
